Holy Heatwave Batman....
It has been a scorcher here in Cali this past week!
Im talkin' over a 100 degrees everyday....
Yeah -
stinkin' H O T
So much for Fall, huh?!
(after I busted my tall boots out and everything...sheesh)
Kinda of hard to get into the crisp, cool Autumn feeling
when your eyeballs are sweating
( What.... I seriously thought my eyeballs were sweating at some point)
On a good note, all of our tomatoes ripened in one weekend.
I think we had everything with tomatoes.....
I added them to a pasta salad
Made a big ol' green salad with about 10 tomatoes in it
Cut up some small ones and poured sprinkled salt on and ate em up :)
Oh and two words - CUCUMBER SALAD
(with tomatoes and red onion - yum)
Sorta tomato'ed OUT at this point.
We have a few cucumbers and squash that are still on their vines
and all of our chili peppers....
(a buttload of them!)
No mo green beans :(
(so sad -these are my fav)
No mo snap peas :(
But...
we still have these guys waiting to "sprout"
How cool are they?!
We actually planted them by accident....
The Stig was driving home from work one day and noticed
an agriculture truck had dropped a flat of little seedlings
(we live in aggie land)
Being the rescuer that he is,
he pulled over and put them in the back of his truck
All 100 of them.....
seriously.
We have a nice sized backyard, but there was no way in hell
we were planting 100 seedlings!
And we didnt even know what they were.
We took guesses......
At first we thought it was broccoli
Then, maybe cabbage.....
Then, we were like W.T.F?!
About 3 weeks ago we noticed little "nubs" growing on the stalk.
My MIL said "I think you have brussel sprout plants!"
I could only think of one word....
GROSS.
Of all the vegetables in the world, the only one I cant stand -
Brussel Sprouts
(my brothers used to refer to them as "condensed farts" - LOL)
There are only 2 things that I have ever done with brussel sprouts...
(well, 3 if you count burying them in my napkin and flushing them down the toilet as a kid)
#1. Brussel Sprout Casserole
I made a casserole last year at Thanksgiving
Surprisingly, it was the hit of the dinner !
I will have to post the recipe when we get closer to Turkey Day
It involves lots of cream and cheese - feel better?
#2. Frog Balls
Have you ever heard of them?
They are DELICIOUS!
Pickled Brussel Sprouts....Oh...Em....Gee
You wont even know you are eating Brussel Sprouts
(well, at least until they hit you the next day in the potty)
Anyhoo -
We are gonna have a crapload of brussel sprouts very soon -
And if I show up at your door
with Brussel Sprout casserole......
just go with it, mmmmmkay?

thanks for the laugh you funny girl! i have never eaten brussel sprouts but your recipes sound good, you should post them for sure! hope it cools down :) have a good one! susan
Sorry, but you sort of lost me at "tomatoed out"... Not ONE of mine ripened this year!!! We have had the saddest summer weather and so little sun. It warmed up quickly in July, I had a LOT of fabulous green tomatoes that promised a wonderful crop, and then - wham! the cold damp Seattle weather was back...
Feel free to mail me all of your excess red... :)

I did my Fall Apple Post just for this reason! I am seriously hoping we get back to sweater weather any day now.:)
you are so much fun!
I am getting to where I stop by just to giggle!
I am sorry about the weather thing though...
I have been a tad bit cold here in the midwest. But by about 2 each day....I get to take off my sweater!
didn't mean to rub it in...I am feeling for ya!
I used to live in Texas where we had no Fall. Actually wore short sleeves on Christmas!
You always crack me up! I love the brussel sprout plants. I actually can tolerate them (when someone else cooks them for me) but I don't buy them and cook them. I just tell myself over and over as I'm eating them...."these are so healthy for you, these are so healthy for you...."
I hope things cool down. I posted the other day about our weird humid non-fallish weather here, but today there was a coolness to the sunny afternoon that made me happy! ;-)

Oh my gosh. You had me giggling all the way to frog balls. Haha! You crack me up. Thanks for stopping into tonight. Too bad your chandie score won't be blinged up in time...I'm sure it will look nicer than my Charlie Brown Christmas tree version of a crystal chandelier! Oh well. I still think she's cute. Happy to hear from you...I saw that you weren't 'following' me anymore and thought I sucked or something. Ha!
Thanks again for the blog roll love...
Hugs,
Jami
P.S. Brussel sprouts are my favorite veggie! I'm a freak.
too funny...and yes...gross to brussel sprouts lol!
try roasting the brussel sprouts=DELISH! Cut them half, toss them with some olive oil, your fav. spices(garlic, dill, whatever) and I like a little bacon crumbled..put them in a single layer in a roasting pan and bake then til tender.
Just found your site from dustyluinteriors...both lovely blogs!!! I too used to hate brussel sprouts so I just had to leave a comment. Roast them and you will love them! Take off the outer layer, cut in half, sprinkle good olive oil and kosher salt (little salt) and roast in oven at 350 until golden brown...believe it or not, Yummy! You could even add grated parmesan cheese on top. Found this tip on the Cottage Industry Blog. Hope you like the recipe!
Love Brussel Sprouts. Try cutting in quarters and sauteing them in Olive oil with a bit of garlic and onion. Yum. Though I love them just boiled with a bit of salt.
